At Cowichan Collaborative Health, we are committed to creating spaces where people feel safe, seen and supported so when the opportunity to display local Indigenous artist, Maynard Johnny Jr’s work came up, we were thrilled!
There are three pieces of Maynard’s work featured in the waiting room at Cowichan Collaborative health:
- Protector (seen in the photo above) which depicts an Orca whale protecting a child in a storm
- Elemental Wolf which Maynard describes as “The Wolf is Supernatural in that it transforms from Orca to hunt the sea to Wolf to hunt the land. Elemental signifies the Wolf is Supernatural and also signifies the Salish Elements.”
- Eagles Catch which shows the convergence of Earth and Sky through the use of vibrant colours and graceful line work captures the spirit and elegance of Coast Salish art within two-dimensional design
